Vie di Romans

The Vie di Romans winery is located near the town of Mariano del Friuli, Isonzo, in the northeastern corner of Italy, bordering Slovenia. The soil in this area is alluvial, rich in pebbles and diverse deposits. The family has been working with the land and wine for more than a century, and Gianfranco Gallo has run the property since 1978. In the same year, the first wine was bottled and marketed with its own label, and the actual quality production was initiated.

Vie di Romans currently has approx. 50 hectares of vineyards and produces approx. 300,000 bottles annually, spread over more than 10 different wines. At Vie di Romans, there is a great understanding of the exceptional climate of the area and the unique territory of the individual fields, and consequently, all the wines are bottled as single-field wines. Common to all wines is a great richness of substance and a distinct character, which is highlighted by, among other things, green harvesting both in May and in July in the same season. Each plant eventually bears just under a kilo of grapes, depending on the variety.

Particularly well-known and well-known are the wines of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio. Both a steel tank and a barrel-ready version are made of Chardonnay and Sauvignon. These wines have a surprising storage potential and win decisively with 1-2 years of further aging. Consequently, Gianfranco has chosen to store his wines one year longer than required by law. The wines only peak after 4-6 years of storage, but can last longer.
